How to convert an MP4 video to text online

  1. 1.

Upload the final MP4 recording with its original audio track.

  2. 2.

Sign in, select the spoken language and queue transcription.

  3. 3.

Review the words and subtitle timing, then export TXT, SRT or VTT.

Use the final video edit

Trimming an introduction after transcription changes the timing of every later caption. Start with the version you plan to publish, or adjust the resulting subtitles.

Speech is required

A silent MP4, a music-only recording or a screen recording without narration has no spoken content to transcribe. For text in a still image, use the separate image OCR workflow.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a transcript of an MP4 without subtitles?

Upload the MP4 and transcribe its spoken audio. Existing subtitles are not required. Silent video frames and text visible on slides are not converted by this speech transcription tool.

Can I turn a lecture, webinar or screen recording into text?

Yes, when the MP4 contains audible speech and fits your plan's duration allowance. Review specialist terms, commands and numbers, then export TXT for notes or SRT and VTT for captions.

How do I convert MP4 to TXT or SRT?

Complete transcription and review the text first. Choose TXT for a plain transcript without caption timestamps, or SRT for numbered subtitle cues with start and end times. VTT is also available for web players.

Do I need to extract the audio first?

No. Upload the MP4 directly. The transcription workflow processes its audio track.

Can I try transcription for free?

Sign in to use the Free plan: 30 transcription minutes per month, with a maximum of 15 minutes per recording. Paid plans provide higher allowances. Your available quota is checked before processing.

Which exports are available?

Review the completed transcript, then download TXT, SRT or VTT. You can correct words and timestamps before exporting. DOCX export and automatic speaker separation are not currently available.

How long does processing take?

Time depends on the recording duration, upload speed and processing queue. A 5 GB upload limit is not a promise that every plan accepts an unlimited recording duration.
